Welcome to Year 2
We have two classes in year 2, Lime and Maple. The adults who work with the children are Miss Laura McKeen (Lime), Miss Jo Bradley (Lime), Mrs Claire Moberly (Maple) and Miss Vicky Manley (teaching assistant).
All children are given a reading book from school which will be changed once the book has been read and the children can answer questions about it.
We ask parents and carers to please sign their child's reading record each time they read at home. Please aim for your child to read at least 3 times a week.
Lime and Maple class enjoy learning new things and demonstrating the school values. We hope you enjoy looking at our page.
In English we have been learning how to write recounts.
We learnt about time conjunctions, 1st person and using the past tense.
For our shared writing we had an underwater experience which some of us then wrote about.
In English, we have also been learning about defeating monster tales. We have used the story of Rapunzel as our class text to learn and have developed use of adjectives in our writing.
Towers, Tunnels and Turrets
During this topic we have learnt about castles and structures including bridges and towers. We have learnt about the famous Brunel who was a structural engineer. We have created our own castles using natural materials, junk modelling and using computing software.
Bright Lights Big City
During this topic we have learnt about London and the Great Fire of London. We went on a virtual tour of London and discovered lots of landmarks. We created some beautiful pieces of art using chalk to create light effects. We made London souvenirs with landmarks on.
During this topic we have learnt about dinosaurs.
We have learnt about Mary Anning and explored what animals ate. We created dinosaur pictures using different materials. We explored rhythms during music lessons too.
