Music

‘Music education opens doors that help children pass from school into the world around them - a world of work, culture, intellectual activity, and human involvement.’

Gerald Ford

Our Music Leader is Debbie Phillips.

We are composers. We are performers. We are critics.

As musicians we are creative and enjoy performing to others. Music has the potential to contribute to Peartree pupils' development, by increasing their confidence and self-esteem, developing leadership, team working, concentration and problem-solving skills.

This aligns with the D and W of our curriculum intentions (see Curriculum page).

Musical knowledge is developed specifically though:

  • playing and performing;
  • composing;
  • listening;
  • learning musical notation;
  • music appreciation;
  • learning about the history of music.

The following musical skills are developed:

  • pitch;
  • duration, beat and rhythm;
  • dynamics;
  • tempo;
  • timbre;
  • texture;
  • structure.

Enrichment activities aimed at ‘Inspiring ambition’ include:

  • In-school annual performances e.g. the Nativity, the KS2 Carol Concert and 'We Love Life';
  • Off-site performances e.g. local care homes, Campus West, The Royal Albert Hall;
  • Special musical assemblies;
  • Attending performances e.g. local secondary schools, the pantomime.
