Sports and Physical Education

"Primary schools sports funding is used well. Pupils enjoy sharpening their techniques and staff develop new skills. Activities provide opportunities for pupils to participate in a range of different sports and to represent the school in competitive games. Fitness lessons support events such as ‘healthy living week’, when pupils learn life skills such as how to make a healthy packed lunch".

Our P.E. Leader is Adam Edwards.

We are athletes. We are gymnasts. We are coaches.

At Peartree Primary School, we inspire pupils to succeed in all areas of sport and physical activities. We aim to give pupils the knowledge, confidence and motivation that establishes a commitment to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. The school offers a broad range of sporting opportunities both within the curriculum as well as through our extensive extra-curricular activities.

This aligns with the and O of our curriculum intentions (see Curriculum page).

We employ a qualified sports coach, who works with all the children in the school. We offer our children the opportunity to try a range of sports and physical activities, including competitive sport, throughout their time with us. Our Sports Premium Plan details how we spend this funding to the benefit of all pupils (see below).

Physical education knowledge and understanding are developed specifically through:

  • developing positive attitudes towards healthy lifestyles, by promoting lifelong physical activity;
  • experiencing and achieving in a range of activities;
  • fostering positive attitudes of cooperation, fair play and perseverance;
  • increasing competence and confidence in a range of activities/sports.
