Applying knowledge, gaining independence and ambition
Year 5 is a calm and studious year. It is an opportunity to embed all of the knowledge learnt in lower Key Stage 2. It is expected all the foundations of learning are now well embedded and children are supported to apply their knowledge in creative and increasingly complex ways.
This is often a year when children grow in maturity – sometimes even more so than in their final year in primary. They gain a greater independence and confidence from being given more responsibility in their learning. Year 5 is the preparations for transition to secondary school. It is about encouraging independence in preparation for bigger things to come.
Peartree's moto is 'Inspiring ambition' and we expect our children in Year 5 to embody this. Upper Key Stage 2 is about ambitious learning and setting goals for the future. You will see great changes during this year.
